Building Schools For The Future
The most exciting school changes in 50 years are coming to Pleckgate.
Balfour Beatty Education has been named as the preferred bidder for the amazing £203m Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme, which will bring huge and exciting changes to our school.
This will see pupils, staff and the community benefit from a £25 million outstanding new build to put our school at the forefront of education in the 21st century.
Some of the exciting changes will include a new curriculum delivery model with 'Zones' linking up subjects for even wider and more flexible learning, hi tech new facilities and ultra modern classrooms.
BSF is funded by the government. The cost of the programme is currently £203m. This could change as details and building costs are finalised, which is standard for any programme of this size.
Blackburn with Darwen Borough council will get about £118m of funding from the government - known as PFI (Private Finance Initiative) credits - for three new-build school facilities at Pleckgate Mathematics & Computing College, Witton Park Business & Enterprise College and the new East Blackburn Community School.
The remaining £85m government funding will pay for the design and build or remodelling of the other five schools - Darwen Vale High School, Our Lady & St John RC High School, St Bede's RC High School, Tauheedul Islam Girls' High School and St Thomas's Centre - in the programme and investment in ICT.
Balfour Beatty Education (BBE) will build or remodel nine schools across Blackburn with Darwen, as well as work on l5 schools in Bolton's schools through a further three phases.
This winter they will form a Local Education Partnership with Blackburn with Darwen and Bolton Councils to deliver BSF across both of the boroughs.
ICT firm Northgate will provide the latest educational technology for all the schools.
