Schools hold personal data about pupils in order to run the education system effectively and in doing so must follow the requirements of the Data Protection Act l998.
Schools are 'data controllers' as they determine the purpose for which and the manner in which, any personal data is processed. When personal data is obtained about pupils schools must ensure that the pupils and/or parents are provided with a 'Fair Processing Notice'. You can find a copy of the Fair Processing Notice which outlines the nature of data held, and for what purpose, by clicking on the following link.
