International Round Up  February 2010

Our global links continue to develop with staff and pupils working with partner schools in several countries.  Headteacher Mr Campbell and Assistant Headteacher Mr Briggs have just returned from South Africa.  During the trip they were ableto hand over the charity donation raised by Pleckgate pupils in an effort to help children in Africa with their education.  Elsewhere plans are afoot for a small group of Year 9 pupils to make a reciprocal visit to our partner school in Copenhagen.  It is hoped that they will make the trip towards the end of May.  Our languages department have regular contact with pupils in France and the Ivory Coast and our new link school in Germany.  The British Council funded project 'Connecting Classrooms' has entered its second year.  This sees Pleckgate working with our close neighbours at Lammack and Hawthorns to establish links with schools in the Charsadda district of NWFP Pakistan.  Puils at the three Blackburn schools have recently taken part in poetry workshops which will be replicated in schools in Charsadda.  It is hoped to publish an anthology of the poems from both countries in the autumn.  Teachers took part recently in a video conference aimed at moving the project forward in the future.  Although in its infancy we are establishing a link with a school in Calcutta, India and hope to undertake some collaborative curriculum work with our new friends shortly.  We hope to announce in the coming weeks plans for a celebration evening in June which will showcase everthing that is done accross the school with an International Dimension
